Advanced blue, infrared & red light therapy for anti-ageing, skin rejuvenation, wound healing and acne-prone skin
LED phototherapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), LED light therapy or low-level light therapy (LLLT) is a non-invasive treatment that uses light (LEDs) to stimulate cellular activity and promote skin and whole body wellness.
In aesthetics, different light wavelengths are utilised to target specific skin concerns:
Red light at 633nm wavelength speeds cell renewal, boosts collagen and elastin and increases circulation and hydration to target ageing and restore vitality. Ideal for skin rejuvenation, anti-ageing and preserving skin firmness.
Near-infrared light at 830nm penetrates deeper into the skin, triggering the healing process, calming irritation and reducing pigmentation. Ideal for healing, calming and to reduce inflammation.
Blue light at 415nm is the most proven wavelength to destroy the acne-causing bacteria responsible for breakouts and reduce inflammation. Ideal for acne and mood enhancement.
In addition to its effects on skin, red and infrared light therapy is extensively researched for its effects on musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries and whole body health and wellness.
What can TriWave LED phototherapy do for me?
The treatment is a relaxing, pain-free experience with proven mood-enhancing effects.
From the first session skin cells are energised to restore vitality and calm irritation - literally (red and infrared light radiation stimulates mitochondria, the cells’ energy powerhouses).
A course of 8-16 sessions taken 1-3 times a week (with a minimum of 1-day gap) is recommended for powerful visible and lasting results (6-12 sessions when combined with RF/cavitation). However, even one treatment is enough for a relaxing, mood boosting, face rejuvenating experience.
TriWave LED light therapy can help:
Stimulate collagen and elastin production (even more so immediately after a deep tissue radiofrequency treatment)
Prevent skin laxity and skin ageing (even more so immediately after a deep tissue radiofrequency treatment)
Enhance skin tone and texture and overall rejuvenate skin (even more so immediately after a deep tissue radiofrequency treatment)
Minimise pore size (even more so immediately after a deep tissue radiofrequency treatment)
Boost circulation (even more so immediately after a deep tissue radiofrequency or deep tissue ultrasound treatment)
Reduce inflammation
Promote skin healing
Reduce pigmentation
Improve acne and acne scars
Help improve psoriasis
Relieve musculoskeletal pain
Recover from sports injuries
Reduce skin redness
Relieve heaviness and irritation caused by lipoedema (even more so immediately after a deep tissue ultrasound treatment)
Skin recover after liposuction and other cosmetic surgery, by minimising inflammation, post-inflammatory pigmentation and prevent fibrosis and scarring
Reduce fibrosis and adhesions after after liposuction and other cosmetic surgery (even more so immediately after a deep tissue ultrasound treatment)
Boost overall, whole body well-being
Relax mind and body, improve mood and help with seasonal affective disorder
Although not a cure-all, one-session miracle treatment (those don’t exist anyway), LED phototherapy is a gentle procedure with multiple benefits after a series of treatments and 99%+ safety profile.
Enjoy some luxury me-time as your skin absorbs the energising light. Each treatment lasts 20 minutes and with no downtime, you can simply get up and glow.
Combine with our exclusive radiofrequency and ultrasound treatments for maximum results
Our LED light therapy can be combined with our exclusive skin tightening, cellulite removal, pressotherapy (coming soon) and deep tissue massage treatments, to maximise their results.
Although LED phototherapy is not nearly as effective as our deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation for skin tightening and cellulite reduction, it is known to boost the results of RF and ultrasound treatments by stimulating cell metabolism and repair at the mitochondrial level.
This aspect of red and infrared LED light therapy makes it the ideal super-booster treatment as an add-on for RF, ultrasound, pressotherapy and massage.
On the other hand, TriWave MD phototherapy is excellent on its own to help prevent skin laxity and skin ageing and boost skin glow and vitality.

The best phototherapy equipment for maximum results
At LipoTherapeia we use Dermalux Tri-Wave MD (Gen II), i.e. the most advanced and most powerful LED light therapy aesthetic equipment available today, with FDA (USA) clearance for acne, wrinkle and musculoskeletal pain and CE (European) clearance for acne, wound healing, pain relief and psoriasis (the only LED phototherapy device to be certified for psoriasis).
Its combination of 3 clinically proven wavelengths (trialed in multiple peer-reviewed studies) and maximum power of 200mW/cm2 (~112W in total, the highest in its class) means that in just 20 minutes you can receive treatment equivalent to literally hours of what is provided by a home LED face mask or LED panel - and even by most other professional LED devices.
The TriWave MD provides an overall:
9x more power than the best LED mask on the market, meaning that 190-minute long sessions are needed for the same treatment
6x more power than the Dermalux Flex MD, meaning that 120-minute long sessions are needed for the same treatment
2.3x more power than the Dermalux Compact, meaning that 46-minute long sessions are needed for the same treatment
180x (!) more power than the hyped-up home-use laser device you see blasted on Instagram every day, meaning that 3600-minute (!) long sessions are needed for the same treatment
60x (!) more powerful than the “professional” version of that laser device you see blasted on Instagram every day, meaning that 1200-minute (!) long sessions are needed for the same treatment
Furthermore, a high-power treatment can more efficiently treat deeper tissues such as the hypodermis, subcutaneous adipose tissue, fascia and muscles. Low power treatments cannot do that.
Plus you get all the other benefits of a medically certified machine:
Stable illumination at the intended intensity throughout your 20-minute treatment duration with no loss of power due to LED overheating (as with some lower-end devices)
Uniform illumination without hotspots which can lead to hyperpigmentation (as with LED masks)
Wavelength accuracy for maximum results and unparalleled safety (as opposed to some lower-end devices and LED masks)
Targeted illumination around the face, or other area to be treated, for maximum light absorption at an optimum angle (as opposed to LED panels)
My take on LED phototherapy with the Dermalux TriWave MD (Gen II)
I am very picky with my choice of aesthetic equipment and do A LOT of science-based research before buying anything (sometimes lasting months), as most of them are low-spec junk which depend on a marketing overdrive to make up for their low spec / poor design.
However, when I tried hands-on the Dermalux TriWave MD I was instantly impressed: a flood of strong three-wavelength light bathed my face, making me feeling instantly relaxed and leaving my face look fresher, relaxed and flushed with circulation.
Plus the facts speak for themselves: 90W of radiant flux in the red and infrared wavelengths hugging the face for 20 minutes, resulting a total radiant energy of 107kJ. I know this may sound gibberish to most people, but to put it in perspective it means 180x more therapeutic light than an overpriced laser that is currently hyped all over the high-end consumer press.
Already in the first month of owning it, and even before using on clients, I have already successfully used the treatment for some patellar tendinitis I sustained while squatting and a nasty bruise on my wrist I sustained from a small accident: in combination with icing once, they both disappeared within days.
I now use the treatment on my chest and abdomen for overall health wellness and every time I use it on my face I can’t avoid but feeling relaxed already five minutes into the treatment - plus for its obvious aesthetic skin benefits.
Knowing all too well how important mitochondrial function is to both skincare and whole body health - from both personal experience and from my years-long study of this subject - I am really excited to offer my clients - and myself and loved ones - a treatment that can help boost mitochondrial function.
I do routinely say that if I had cellulite / skin looseness I would be using deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation treatments on-and-off continuously, for both prevention and improvement. And that’s why we offer these technologies at the clinic.
Now I also love using the TriWave phototherapy on my face and body twice a week for its results on my face and joints - plus the feeling of relaxation during its use and overall feeling of wellness after its use.
DISCLAIMER: As mentioned above, LLLT/phototherapy/biophotomodulation is not a cure-all and and no medical claims are made for its use by LipoTherapeia. But it can really be a valuable aesthetic and complementary health treatment with an excellent safety profile and a deeply relaxing application.

How does blue / infrared / red light therapy work?
Blue, red and infrared light interacts with molecules in the body called chromophores, triggering a cascade of biochemical reactions which result in better cell function. The most important chromophores in the body are hemoglobin, cytochrome c oxidase (Cox), myoglobin, flavins, flavoproteins and porphyrins.
Blue light acts on porfyrins inside the C. Acnes (Cutibacterium acnes) bacteria, responsible for acne, which results in killing deactivating them.
Red and infrared light act on the mitochondrial enzyme cytochrome c oxidase, boosting mitochondrial function (mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cells) by facilitating the use of oxygen and consequent ATP synthesis (ATP is the energy currency of the cells).
Red and infrared light also helps dissociate nitric oxide from cytochrome c oxidase, thereby further boosting oxygen consumption (nitric oxide produced in the mitochondria can inhibit respiration by binding to Cox and competitively displacing oxygen, especially in stressed or hypoxic cells).
Furthermore, red and infrared light boosts localised production or release of NO and stimulates vasodilation through the effect NO on cyclic guanine monophosphate (cGMP).
And finally, controlled ROS and NOS generation results in the release of NF-κB, resulting in the transcription of protective and stimulatory gene products.
Practically the end outcomes are:
Increased collagen and elastin production, i.e. improved skin firmness and elasticity and tendon/fascia/ligament/muscle health
Reduced inflammation and cell senescence, i.e. reduced pain and swelling, and overall healthier skin and other tissues and faster recovery from cosmetic and other surgery including post-surgical fibrosis and scar tissue prevention (LLLT can also stimulate healing of deeper structures such as nerves (Gigo-Benato et al. 2004), tendons (Fillipin et al. 2005), cartilage (Morrone et al. 2000), bones (Weber et al. 2006) and even internal organs (Shao et al. 2005)
Wound contraction and healing
Improved blood circulation
Reduced pigmentation
What is best for cellulite and skin tightening: infrared/red light therapy or radiofrequency and cavitation?
For cellulite and skin tightening our deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation are far, far more effective - no comparison.
However, due to its mitochondrial stimulation effect, red and infrared light therapy can enhance our RF and cavitation treatment when received at the end of the treatment. It is not absolutely necessary but for those perfectionists who want the absolute best, red and infrared light can offer that extra boost.
For face, neck and décolletage anti-aging and rejuvenation, infrared and red light therapy can work on its own (as an intensive course, as a maintenance treatment or as an one-off treatment) and it is both more pleasant and more economical.
However, when red and infrared light treatment is received at the end of our deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency face/neck/décolletage treatments, maximum results are achieved, as skin receives stimulation by both radiofrequency and red/infrared light.
The only aesthetic practice in London specialising only in cellulite reduction and skin tightening / natural anti-ageing
Most aesthetic clinics offer 20, 30, even 50 different treatments, from laser hair removal to fillers to chemical peels to cellulite, and thereby lose specialisation and expertise.
A jack of all trades therapist or clinic cannot possibly be experts in 20, 30 or 50 different treatments. It is physically impossible to follow the science and all the latest developments in 50, 30 or even 20 fields.
And it is impossible to be good at one aesthetic condition, if you never study and practise with focus and depth the science of that aesthetic condition.
So at LipoTherapeia we only focus 100% on cellulite reduction and skin tightening/natural anti-ageing with only three proven, effective and 99.5% safe technologies: deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency, deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation and high-power phototherapy.
We do not do botox, fillers, chemical peels, dermablading, microdermabrasion, fluffy facials, laser hair removal and the like: just cellulite reduction and skin tightening / natural anti-ageing with the best ultrasound / deep tissue radiofrequency / phototherapy technologies in the world (no exaggeration). And we know these subjects inside out - for your benefit.
23-year experience in cellulite and skin tightening and 13-year experience in RF / cavitation
At LipoTherapeia® we make the most out of the best technologies in the world with our advanced protocols, developed over:
More than a decade of study and research, based on on a deep knowledge of the Physics of radiofrequency and ultrasound and the anatomy of cellulite and connective tissue
12,000+ radio frequency/ultrasound cavitation sessions on thousands of clients with hundreds of kinds of body types, sensitivities and health/aesthetic issues
All with 99.5%+ safety and NO PAIN, no microneedling, no injections, no fillers, no extreme intensity “miracle treatments”, NO DOWNTIME, no numbing creams, no invasiveness, no surgery, no drama.
Just comfortable, safe and effective treatment that works by naturally stimulating your skin to become tighter, fresher and smoother (rather than literally burning it at 60-90ºC first in the hope that it will look better later, as in with extreme intensity HIFU or RF microneedling).
Caring, professional, boutique treatment
Treatment is always provided by an expert and is personalised, according to your specific needs, after an extensive assessment of your type of cellulite / skin looseness.
No treatment by mere machine operators, no armies of ever-changing therapists, receptionists and pushy salespeople, no hard sales, no pressure, no spam.
