Can I get rid of my cellulite forever? After a course of treatments, will I get rid of cellulite (permanently)?

These are common questions many people ask about cellulite treatments or creams.

Unfortunately, many people believe that by some kind of very expensive magic they can create permanence on their legs when nothing, absolutely nothing in the entire universe, biology or human biology, is permanent.

But before we go into how permanent cellulite removal can be, let’s make it clear that cellulite can almost never be fully eliminated. That’s right, in the vast majority of cases you cannot “get rid” of all your cellulite completely. You can reduce it quite a lot - up to 60-80% - but not eliminate it.

Is cellulite forever?

Is there anything permanent in this life?

  • Is any weight loss permanent? Nope. If someone loses weight and then eats too much or exercises too little, then they will regain all the lost weight and then some. Why should cellulite fat be different?

  • Is building muscle permanent? Nope. If someone builds an amazing, toned body after a few months or years of training and then becomes a couch potato, they will lose the majority of the muscle they built.

  • Are liposuction results permanent? Nope. I know many a client (actually most of them) who after having liposuction they have put fat back on on the exact same spots (plus other body areas of course).

  • Is skin tightening permanent? Nope. Does anyone expect to die with firm skin because they did a course of super-expensive skin tightening treatments back when they were 39?

Exactly.

Nothing lasts forever, especially anything to do with health, human life or life in general.

Santa doesn’t exist - there is no vaccine for cellulite (and even vaccines fail sometimes)

Then how on earth do some people expect to “get rid” of their cellulite “forever” - with ANY method of ANY kind, including surgery?

(BTW, surgery is the worst option for cellulite but that’s material for another article.)

You can’t just possibly have a treatment that will “immunise you” for the rest of your life and from then onwards allow you to abuse your body with fatty/sugary food, alcohol, smoking, sedentary lifestyle and hormonal contraception (all of which cause cellulite) and never develop cellulite again.

This is akin to believing in Santa. And as we know from age 10 or so, Santa doesn’t exist.

So let’s make it crystal clear: there is no treatment, lifestyle change or surgery on this planet that can “get rid of cellulite” forever, regardless of how many billions you have in your bank account to throw at the problem. None. And neither there will be. Permanence is against all laws of physics and biology.

So please do not believe the blatant marketing lies in the media about “permanent results” (usually with something like “you only need one” £3,000 rip-off session) and start thinking of ‘long-lasting results’, with a realistic course of 5, 10 or 20 sessions, depending on severity.

Is cellulite permanent then?

As long as cellulite develops and remains in the body for a few months, permanent changes occur in the connective tissue (namely fibrosis), which do not allow cellulite to be totally reversed/eliminated afterwards.

The more cellulite remains and develops on the skin, the more pronounced those changes are.

So yes, one can say that once it occurs, cellulite is permanent. In many cases it can be reduced up to 60-80% but not eliminated.

Cellulite reduction: look for long lasting results, not permanent results

So instead of asking “Does this treatment provide permanent results”, the correct question to ask is: “Does this treatment provide long-lasting results”?

  • For quick fixes, results with treatments such as clay wraps, lymphatic massages and pressotherapy occur quickly but don’t last more than a couple of weeks, max

  • For the handful of effective, long-lasting treatments, such as deep-acting, high-power radio frequency or deep acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation, results after a course of 6-12 sessions can last from a few months to a few years, depending on lifestyle after the course of treatments.
