How London causes cellulite: champagne, designer cocktails and luxury restaurants

Cellulite and London: the champagne lifestyle

How London causes cellulite: luxury living and the champagne lifestyle

Beer and fish and chips vs refined restaurants and expensive cocktails.

What do these two things have in common? Calories and alcohol, of course.

In the last 20 years that we have specialised in cellulite, we have seen so many champagne-sipping people, who had literally thousands of evenings of refined dining at the most expensive restaurants, sophisticated cocktails and the absolute best champagne.

And we have met many others who just comfort-eat on the go and comfort-drink to relax and escape from London’s fast-paced living.

However, it doesn't matter if you gain your calories from the humble beer with fish and chips or from expensive champagne, fancy cocktails and fine dining. The end result is the same. Cellulite, loose skin and body fat gain (as well as liver damage) do not discriminate between posh calories and humble calories.

Champagne and expensive food makes you pile on the pounds, as much as budget wine and simple food does, and if you have more of it, you will accumulate more fat and more cellulite. There is no such thing as diet champagne, slimming cocktail or “wagyu light”.

And food even in upmarket restaurants is cooked primarily with various degrees of frying (the worst type of cooking for your thighs) and is packed with sugar, fat, salt, butter, margarine and questionable oils. Yes, it tastes divine but it is a million miles away from healthy eating

And these are just the good examples, from the generally lighter Japanese cuisine. Let’s not even talk about richer food from the fat-heavy French cuisine, the carb-heavy Italian cuisine etc.

And, of course, desserts are always the same, posh or not: packed with sugar, carbs and fat. That’s the definition of dessert.

Moral of the story: too much decadence, even luxury decadence, is not good for your thighs (and overall health) and expensive doesn’t make it healthier.

Cellulite x London

This article is part of a series which examine the effects living in London has on health and appearance, with emphasis on the focus of this blog: skin firmness, anti-ageing and cellulite.

Of course, ‘London’ could readily be replaced by ‘New York’, ‘Rome’, ‘Paris’, or even sunnier places like ‘Mumbai’, ‘Los Angeles’ and ‘Sydney’.

How Western diet and lifestyle causes cellulite

The effect is the same: adhering to the typical Western diet, activity patterns, stress and lifestyle (which more and more people around the world do, even in developing nations), has a negative effect on overall health, and specifically on the skin.

Metabolic inflammation, oxidative damage, poor circulation, glycation are all hallmarks of this lifestyle and are directly responsible for cellulite, skin laxity, water retention and skin ageing.
